Around 2:30pm on Friday, I realized that Craig and I had to be sure our 2 girls were going to be picked up by their grandfather so that we could get ready and have a fun night out. Most grand openings we find are filled with the typical corporate stiffs that walk around patting each other on the back about the marvelous job they just pulled off. Where almost half the people there really aren’t sure who’s the person standing next to you, but assume you all belong.
What we didn’t expect was the relaxed atmosphere, fashion show, lite & airy location, flowing drinks, kind and attentive staff, and the amazing DJ Jazzy Jeff. We left work a little later than we expected, so we arrived around 9pm. And the party was already rocking…
I had a nice little chat with Mayor Nutter, and the folks who set up the evening, Nena with aloft hotel, and Meridith of Braithwaite (nice folks). Enjoyed the pear & rum mixes…and couldn’t get off the dance floor. I mean, come on, it’s Jeff we’re talking about here. That would just be rude.
Oh yeah, and the hotel…well it’s everything you could think a swanky new Philly hotel would be. Beautiful, clean lines, did I mention kind and attentive staff?, and brand new everything. Next time you travel, consider the aloft…and if you’re thinking of a quick romantic getaway, even if you live in the city, try them.
Only bad thing, the bartender didn’t know how to make a mocha martini. Am I the only one in the city who orders these? Oh well…

To quote the famous Snoop Doggy Dogg…”With so much drama in the LBC…” but if only I could make LBC rhyme with Philly…
These last few weeks have been a whirlwind of activity. And what I find even more interesting is that folks are surprised to see the low ratings for KYW. What people forget is that the average citizen does not have to be uber-educated. A little bit of common sense goes a long way. So, when viewers realize they can’t trust the team that once delivered their news, they change channels. It’s really that simple.
And for industry folks to be in an uproar because they don’t know what to do with Mendte’s Emmy nominations, I mean, come on. Any one else, regardless of the caliber of work performed, would be immediately dismissed. And why not? What he did, and according to the fact that he’s supposedly going to plead guilty, should eliminate him from the competition completely. This is journalism, in one of the top DMA’s of our nation, not the high school newspaper. And even high school kids have more ethics that what we’ve all witnessed.

And to end off with some celebratory news, congratulations to CBS-3’s Robin Makintosh. Thank you for all of the years you dedicated to Philly! Enjoy your retirement!
Til next time…enjoy these last few weeks of summer!
Having been a Philly sports fan all my life, I was so excited this weekend when our very own Philadelphia Soul won the AFL Championship. I heard all this week the looming question, does this win squash the Philly curse? Personally, I think so. These guys played their hearts out. I couldn’t believe how they played the last 40-seconds. But I think they had to go out with drama and not just blow out the game in one fell swoop!
So, to all the Philly fans out there…and of course, to the Soul organization…
Congratulations!
What do you think? Is the curse finally over? Comment…

Making the switch to digital television is easier than many might think. NAB – National Association of Broadcasters are offering alot of great information to the general public about the transition from analog signal to digital.
Now many people will start a dialogue on whether it’ll be HD or any other format. But that’s not necessarily the topic. The function happening here is a matter of distribution – how you receive the programming. As long as you have cable or satellite, or purchase an inexpensive converter box, your current television set will be able to receive the programming once the switch takes place on Feb. 17, 2009.

It’s been interesting to see a whole new business cycle. Our typical business cycle slows down around this time of year for our corporate clients. But not in the last 2 years. Last year, we thought it was just a fluke…but when we experienced the same pick up now…we recognized that it’s definitely a growing trend.
Having spoken with our clients, their cycles have adjusted as well. With this, it’s imperative that clients continue to communicate with their audience. Be it through a sales application, training, education, or merely touching base. Communicating allows people to know that you’ve been thinking about them and that their needs are being met or can be met by you.
Our goal at Beholder is to be sure that we’re communicating those messages properly and in the right medium. If you know your audience base is almost all electronic, why would you send paper documents? Not to mention, it’ll help you with your “green” initiatives.
Go back to your marketing plan – and hopefully, regardless of your company size, you should have one – and evaluate your methods, targets and processes again. It’ll help you refocus your efforts and get back on track.
Now for us, we just had to adjust when we do certain marketing initiatives…not necessarily how!
